Contend | ByTheWell4God “Contending for the Faith”

I’m back with another Bible journaling entry as I work through the “Contending for the Faith” devotional from ByTheWell4God.

Today’s entry is for Day 5 – Contend and I wanted to create some interactive space so I include some of the different notes that I took as I studied through today’s content.

All products will be linked throughout the post at the end of each section to make it easier for you to see what products were used.

This background had a near oops moment but I think it actually added to the page. I started by lightly blending Iced Spruce Distress Oxide Ink using a fluffy make up brush.

I then planned on randomly stamping bits of the Running Clocks background stamp using Picket Fence Spray Stain. I had sprayed the spray stain onto a nonstick mat where I’d previously used Black Soot Spray Stain to color a piece of lace (used later on in this entry) and must not have fully cleaned the mat because I picked some of the black ink up with the white but I like the soft texture it brought to the background.

I felt like it needed just a little more contrast in the background since the Picket Fence Spray Stain didn’t dry as a stark white. Some texture paste through the Tim Holtz Floral Stencil was just what the background needed and added some tangible texture to the page which is something I always love in my projects.

I like to invest in dies when I can that way I can create my own ephemera pieces to match the different projects I work on. The Tim Holtz Brushstroke Flowers dies are an absolute favorite of mine as they create beautiful layered flowers and the sets can easily be mixed and matched.

Here I used the Brushstroke Flowers No. 3 with some of the papers from the Contending for the Faith Paper Collection. I used coordinating distress ink colors to tint the papers a little more so that the floral shapes didn’t get lost in the busier patterns.

We will get to the fun interactive element in a second, but first the bits and pieces I pulled out for embellishments. I picked out a couple number strips (no rhyme or reason to the numbers) from the Tim Holtz Number Strips and a large clock face from the Tim Holtz Urban Layers. Since I’d included a #3 for the day in my last entry I decided to do a little nod to the day on this page also by painting over the #5 with Tattered Rose Distress Paint.

Here is also where you can see the black lace ribbon I created by spraying a piece of white ribbon with Black Soot Distress Stain (I love the softer black than if I was to buy black lace).

Now for the interactive cards! I used a Tim Holtz Journal Card for the base and attached that directly to the page. The top card was made by adhering together one of the verse cards from the “Contending for the Faith” devotional kit and a Contending for the Faith Journal Card back to back. I had punched out a tab from one of the Mini Flash Cards and sandwiched that between the two journal cards.

This entire card sandwich was then attached to the base card with a hinge of washi tape. I included some additional notes using a couple of the Contending Labels.

This page was a little more slow going than Day 3 but I was able to work layer by layer throughout the day which allowed me to spend a little more time reflecting on the verses and the lesson from Day 5 of the ByTheWell4God “Contending for the Faith” devotional.

Please leave me any questions or comments down below and don’t forget to grab a copy of the devotional kit if you haven’t already!
